This young girl started with the Club in 1973 when she was just 5 years old. the Club was then situated inside the gymnasium at Mathew Moss High School , her first coach was Rod Taylor.
The Rochdale Olympic Gymnastic Club gained more members and in 1975 moved to Castleton Community Centre where Cheryl gained more experience and started to enter competitions. Cheryl remembers her first Grade 5 bar routine. Upward circle, backward hip circle , squat through dismount. "It only feels like yesterday when I did my first competition" say Cheryl.
In 1980 the Club moved to its present premises in Springfield Park and with the help of her coach Rod she became the first GYMNAST OF THE YEAR , Cheryl went from strength to strength and loving the sports so much decided to become a coach and in 1995 she became COACH OF THE YEAR.
During her time as a gymnast she remembers travelling to Tourcoing, Rochdale's twin town in France in 1987 and again in 1990. In 1992 she travelled with 20 gymnasts and 10 coaches to Los Angeles California for two weeks sharing experience with NEWHOPE Gymnastics Centre of Excellence.
