E-MAIL RECEIVED 31.10.09 FROM VIKKI FINNEY:-
Hi Cheryl, You
may not remember me but it's Vikki Finney. I had a daughter, Ysobel that came to gym back in 2005. I was expecting my
3rd child then & then we emigrated to Perth. I have just looked at the news on sport section of your local paper
& seen how well all your gymnasts have done. Just wanted to say they look fabulous & congratulations to them
all. Ysobel still does gym here & also my 7yr old lad now. he loves it too. I do, just too bloody old to train
now!!!!! I still teach fitness & train lots actually. Well, not sure if you will remember me but congrats anyway. Take
care,Vik

E-MAIL RECEIVED 30.4.08 FROM LEE THOMPSON (Chloe's Dad):-
Hi Cheryl, How have you been? As you are already aware Chloe has decided that she no longer wants to do
Gymnastics much to the disappointment of myself and Diane. We have been trying for months to get her to change her mind
and had hoped that switching to two days a week would help, however she has made up her mind and we don't want to force
her to do something which she doesn't want to do. As you know we recently purchased the new squad tracksuit which
is now surplus to requirements along with her squad leotard. I would be grateful if you could see if anyone would like
to buy them from us as it would be a shame for them to go to waste as they are like new. We would like to thank yourself
and everyone at the Gym for all your help and support over the last few years and we will miss you all also as we made some
friends along the way, we are due to relocate to South Wales in the next few months and we would appreciate it if you
could pass on our thanks to Graham, Fiona, Frankie, Brenda, Vicky, the 'T' Birds, the pink ladies and all the other coaches
and parents who we got to know. We will miss you all. Thanks again and all the best! Lee, Diane, Chloe and Josh p.s

E-MAIL RECEIVED 16.4.08 FROM GRAHAM LATIMER on the final leg of his round the
world trip !:-
Bags packed and off to Singapore.
Friday 11th April - Wow !! This place is hot and humid. Stepped out of the air conditioned
hotel and my glasses steamed up. Been to all the touristy places including "Raffles Hotel" and had to drink a "Singapore
Sling". You haven't been there unless you do that.
Saturday 12th April - Had a tour of the place and went to a Chinese Temple, a Budda Temple,
a Gemstone Factory and the Orchid Gardens. We saw the only Orchid that has a scent, a bit like vanilla. Then onwards
to a Night Safari where they let you go through the grounds with the Lions and Tigers, followed by some dancers and fire eating
shows.
Sunday 13th April - Went for a walk down Orchard Road where all the "Posh" shops are, but
seeing as it was too hot, (32 degrees), I went into the Art Gallery and Museum where there is air conditioning. On returning
to the Hotel I was met by my Rep who took me to Singapore Airport which is four times as big as Manchester's, and this is
where I take my last flight to get back to you all. This journey takes thirteen hours.
I arrived at Manchester Airport, and on to collect my bags for the last time. I thank everybody concerned
that my bags have been at the right place at the right time, with all the take off's and landings being scheduled correctly.
I think there has been 12 take off's and 8 bag changes, that's not bad is it?
Sounds like something Cheryl had organised.
So, I will be seeing you soon, and many thanks to Cheryl, for adding it in the News N Views and keeping
you all up to date. I hope you enjoyed it.
Bcnu
Graham.
E-MAIL RECEIVED 15.4.08 FROM TRISH LOFTUS (CHARLOTTE'S MUM):-
Hi Cheryl,Just a quick line to
say a big Thank You for all you and your team do for Charlotte. I have just viewed the results from Saturday and was astounded
at the amount of competitors and really just how well Lottie did! I think it's marvellous as she is still only 6. It's all
down to Abbi's patience (and boy do you need plenty of that working with Lottie!!) and also the pure passion that Lottie has
for the sport. She is always upside down or in splits even in the middle of Asda! (I' ve seen a few men wince when she
suddenly drops into splits in the middle of the aisle). Once again Thank you to all
of you, I feel really proud of her achievement so far even if she does'nt quite understand it yet. Pride is not enough
for her I think, her attitude is she can't polish pride! She want's medals and it's that desire that I hope will make her
a great gymnast one day.
Regards Trish Loftus
E-MAIL RECEIVED 5.4.08 FROM GRAHAM LATIMER:-
Honestly New Zealand is BIG !! When you travel round here you do it in Hours not Kilometres.
26th March - Borrowed a car and drove up to Picton (6 Hours). This is where the ferry
goes to the North Island. It is a coast road and you pass all the seals coming out of the sea and sunning themselves.
They don't bother when you walk right up to them.
27th March - Had a local breakfast, Scrambled Eggs and Fresh Salmon. Took a 4 hours
ride on the Mail Boat, which delivers mail to the private houses in the coves. Then off to the Cook monument.
No wonder he visited these islands six times.
28th March - Went to a German Beer Festival with lots of singing and Oom Pah Pah.
30th March - It is only 28 degrees today, but still had a BBQ outside. Don't know
if I told you, but the sun rises in the West and sets in the East ??
31st March - Rode into town today to invesitgate some more, and found Ragiora Gymnastics
Club by chance. They have not many children but they are very good (we must do an invitational).
1st April - Watched one of the family play footlball for one of the local teams.
2nd April - We are off on a 3 day runaround and saw the Glaciers. They are very chilly
when you are near them, and the water that forms a river from them is white. The actual glaciers have blue streaks in
them.
3rd April - Visitied the famous "Bungy Bridge" where it all started. It looks easy
- but we didn't have time to stay.
4th April - Called in at the Moeraki Boulders, these are round rocks about 5 metres diameter
which have fallen from the cliff face onto a beach. They are 1000's of years old. Some of them have broken open
like eggs and the insides are all crystalized into weird shapes. They have fallen from the cliffs for a length of 50
metres, and there is nowhere else in the world that has them.
Up to date again, so I will say Good Luck for the future competition until I see you again.

E-MAIL RECEIVED 29.3.08 FROM GRAHAM LATIMER:-
Report as from 4th March 2008:-Arrived in Las vegas and what a sight.
Its a bit like Blackpool with lights but BIGGER and on both sides of the road. The hotels are BIG, the
meals are BIG, the rooms are BIG, and the Slot machines ---- there are thousands of them, they even have them while you are
waiting for your luggage coming off the plane. some people call this place ' LOST WAGES' . Another thing, there are
no clocks and the place just keeps on going 24 hours a day.Cheryl - there are four circus solie here, I wont be going to any
of them.
5th March Took a trip in a helicopter to the Grand Canyon, what an experience,
when you get to the bottom the silence is deafening. I took a piece of rock and the pilot says everybody does that, that is
why the conyon is so deep.Rafting afterwards right up to the bottom of the Hoover Dam.
8th March Hawaii, This place is paradise, 3 swimming pools and one that
is open to the sea and the colourful tropical fish swim in and out, I found myself swimming with a turtle's that come in to
sun themselves The shells are 3 feet long. The temperature here is 36 degrees and you have to be careful with sunbathing.
I sat on the edge of the cliffs and watched whales splashing about.I dont belive a lot I am seeing. But it's true.
12th March Back in a helicopter and over the top of volcanos, the red
lava flowing towards the sea, seems unreal as it changes into steam.
14th March Get this !! Took off from Hawaii, then Honolulu, on to Fiji,
then Auckland and finally Christchurch. all in one day. BUT setting off on the 14th and arriving on the 16th ??? Yes I
passed the international dateline. I am one day in front of myself. Who needs a time machine Mr Wells?.
17th March The South Island is very English with Oak trees and hedges,
but there is a lot much space. They even have Fish n Chips.I have been to a Crusaders Rugby match, a rock concert ' Split
Endz' they used to be called 'Crowded House'. I have borrowed a Bike and can ride into town in less
than ten minutes. I have also borrowed a car and been up to Picton. which is 6 hours away. You dont
measure distances here in miles or km,s you measure them in hours. The steaks here are ---- thicker than
a dockers sandwich --- and the beaches are so long that you can just see the next family. i have
even been with the post man delivering mail on the mailboat, going into all the coves and delivering to all the
isolated properties. I think you are up to date for the moment, but will write again soon. Must go
as there is another beer waiting for me.
Bcnu, Graham

Graham's on his round the world trip - he must have nothing better to do !!!
Hi all, Just to see if you can read this one. Had 4 days here in Edmonton, the weather is
chilly but I am enjoying all there is to see. I have met my friend David who has taken me to see the biggest Mall in the world,
with real sea lions, penguins, an ice rink and a swimming area with a wave machine. There is an election going on here
and we visited the legislation building where they will give the results out on monday night. Going to see some of Davids
friends tonight so I can bore them to death with my photos of Eygpt. Try to put this on the club news !!! Bcnu Graham

I have to say a HUGE thankyou for coming, everyone who watched the team thought they were fantastic and
you may even have some new recruits !! I'm sorry I couldn't get the good weather to come, but all in all I am so proud
of the local community for attending in the numbers they did, on such an umpredictable day !
A gentleman gave me a 'pink' leaflet with your classes details on, if you would like, you could send us
a couple and I can photocopy them, and hand them out to the children at school, (the one he gave me has got very wet !)
I am so pleased that the team enjoyed themselves, and once again a huge THANKYOU !

Hiya Cheryl. Do you remember me? I was an ROGC member from 1983 until 1994
ish. I knew you as Cockerill and you knew me as Emma Summerfield. (Short, noisy, lived in Milnrow, I was in Rod's group)
I've just found the web site and I am so chuffed to see that ROGC is still
going strong and that good coaches such as yourself are still there. I just wanted to email and thank you for my years
at ROGC (you don't think about saying thanks when you're young and snotty do you?) but I really appreciate the dedication,
support and good humour you all gave me. Gym was a huge part of my life (although I was no Alex Hall!) and I wanted to take
the oppotunity to make sure you knew how grateful I am.
I've no kids to send to the club, but are there other ways I can support
it? Let me know as it would be great to get involved again.
Take care and thanks again

E-MAIL RECEIVED 1.10.04 FROM THE WILKINSONS WHO, IN SEPTEMBER, 2004, WENT TO THE OTHER
SIDE OF THE WORLD TO GET AWAY FROM US !!
G'day all,
Well we're here at last.. after a good flight and finally some sleep we are trying
to get our hours back in order.. Jess still hasn't mastered that yet as she's still bed and it's 10.40am.. although
we were up till the early hours..
Its now Friday morning here and we have got up to a BLOODY HURRICANE!! It's peeing
down with rain and you cant even walk for the wind.. its howling, put on specially to make us feel at home I suppose.
We've just been invited to a bbq from someone at Andrews work (not sure if he's opened his curtains
yet!) but apparently this will have blown over by tomorrow!! hummmmm.....
Girls are ok, we are all a bit dazed actually being here, its a bit scary as we dont know anywhere
or anything and its a strange feeling..
We went shopping for food at Woolworths! Thats a supermarket over here but a bit like Lidl,
not really very good, hoping to find Tesco soon.. (don't think I'll have much luck!!)
It seems to be quite expensive living here in Sydney centre so the sooner we get a house in the
suburbs the sooner we can get settled and the sooner you lot can come and visit us... but yes, I know you can get this
weather in Rochdale...
TV is crap, there doesn't seem to be much on, cant seem to find any normal channels. We
did find Bad Girls on though at 1am in the morning ... but yes, they were god knows how many series behind us..
Well, need to get on, anyone who has msn messenger please add me to your list, I'm Tracey_wilks@hotmail.com but if you have any problems adding me, just email me your address and I will try from this end.
If I have missed anyone of this email it is because I only have a laptop and all my email address's
are stored on the desktop PC which I won't have access to for a couple of weeks so please pass on my apologises.
Speak again to you all
Love Tracey xx
E-MAIL RECEIVED 14.4.04 FROM RACHEL KENYON - AN EX-GYMNAST OF 1978-1988 ISH!
Hi Cheryl,
I've just been to the playgym this morning with my 3 year old twins. I spent a lot of time looking
at the notice boards. It's good to see that you personally have come so far in the world of Gymnastics and now seem
to be a well respected Head Coach both at ROGC and on a higher level, well done.
It was great to see the club doing so well and giving other local clubs a run for their money !! I
joined in about 78ish and left in 88ish when I moved to London. I returned to Rochdale last year. I recognised
photo's of Graham Latimer, Adel and Amy, and your good self who has not changed a bit since I last saw you in 1989.
Are you still in touch with Rod at all? Hopefully I'll bump into you at some point.
Rachel Kenyon
E-MAIL RECEIVED 30.11.03 FROM AN EX GYMNAST EIRLYS HUGHES JONES:-
Hi, bit of a blast from the past !
I went to Rochdale OGC when I was younger. I was talking about all the fun I had there to a friend
and I looked it up on the internet and came across the web page. Its so great. Really nice web page. I am
so happy that it's going so well and good luck for the future competitions. Looks like you guys are clearing up at them.
I would really like to hear from Mike Diggle, who was my coach for so long. I am currently at St Andrews
University in Scotland, reading Geography. I would be most grateful if you could pass on my e-mail and say hi.
I recognised a gew people - Graham with the glases, Cheryl and Richard (I was in the same group with his daughter with Michelle
Bailey and Claire Diggle).
All the best
Eirlys Hughes Jones.
E-MAIL RECEIVED 11.10.03 FROM GILLIAN MACDONALD (EX-GYMNAST WHO LEFT US WHEN SHE MOVED
TO GENEVA)
Salut,
How are you all getting on without me? I've joined a gym club here (French speaking!) but I don't
get to do bars and my backaway any more. It's not as good as Rochdale but I suppose it keeps me fit. Getting used
to life over here in the sun and snow. Snowboarding next month, yeah. Made lots of new friends, but still miss
you all.
Love Gillian x x x
p.s. Hope to see you soon.
p.p.s. Keep winning all those medals.
E-MAIL RECEIVED 21.9.03 FROM SHARON ALLCOCK (LEONIE AND KIAH MOVED TO AUSTRALIA IN 2002)
Hiya,
Hope U R all fine. Sorry it's been ages since I've been in contact. The girls are both well.
Leonie is still doing gym and this weekend finally competed in her first comp over here, she'd missed some cos we'd been away
and little athletics. Anyway, she had a ball and managed 1st on floor, 3rd on beam, 4th on vault, 10th on bars.
Her bars R shocking at the moment, and her team came 2nd, so she was pleased with herself. Kiah is toying with the idea
of going back to gym, but otherwise she is enjoying little athletics. Say hi to everyone from us and keep in touch.
Love Sharon & Girls.

Log onto www.rochdaleonline.org then click onto the Community Section, Click onto Sports Section, then look for the club (Rochdale Olympic Gymnastics
Club). From there you can get all the info required. The interesting part of the site is to look at the Group
Levels of Gymnasts, then click on the gymnasts picture for information about which competitions they have been in. Wishing
everyone who looks at the site a Lucky 2003.

Hi! My name is Ryan Maskell, and I am a men's competitive gymnastics coach in Houston, Texas. I just wanted
to compliment you guys on your well laid out site! Additionally, if anyone wants to talk gymnastics, I can never find enough
people to talk to, heh heh heh. I guess that's about it for now. Happy landings, lol.

I was surfing Tripod and checked out your site at Tripod/rochdalegym. I have a good friend with a really
similar site, and I passed your url along to her. Have you ever seen a weblog? I was noticing your writing style, and I think
the weblog format might really work well for you. I just started one recently, and I am actually thinking of dumping my homepage
in favour of just having the weblog, since I am enjoying it so much more than maintaining my homesite. Anyway, I really justed
wanted to say thanks for an interesting site!
E-MAIL RECEIVED 3.1.01, FROM LUCY SIDEBOTTOM - AN EX-GYMNAST
I have just had a nosey at your website and I was not only impressed that you had a website but the fact
that both Steve Butterworth and Mike Diggle look pretty normal on the photogaphs surprised me greatly! I am sure that Steve
was probably muttering a lewd comment under his smile though.
I thought the website was pretty good although I was
a bit disappointed with the lack of club history and achievements that had been made by past gymnasts.
However if
you wanted to do a history page then I'm sure the likes of Rebecca Caygill, Steph Reay, Lisa Nield (whoops don't know her
married name), Karen Hughes, Helen Secton and Emma Ball would relish the thought of slipping back into leotards for a photo.
Hope things are going well.
