Firstly, a huge great big thank you to everyone at the club for one big massive effort with all the donations of chocolate.  We could have challenged Cadbury’s with the amount that was brought in.  Thanks to you all for your generosity it was great to see.

Tell you what – Graham has missed his way, he should apply for a job at Mecca.  A fantastic job was done here by Graham and his assistant Rachel with these two entertaining everyone!

But come on 2 n 7 “A Duck with a Crutch!” What’s all that about ????

I have never seen some of the gymnasts concentrate as much.....................

This event was something the club has never done before but all who attended had a fantastic night and really enjoyed themselves in addition to raising some funds for the club.  Grandparents, Parents, Children, Gymnasts, Coaches & Judges all joined in and a thoroughly enjoyable evening ended with everyone making a point of thanking the organisers for a great night and requesting more of these type of “family” orientated events in the future

THE NIGHT WAS A ROARING SUCCESS AND R.O.G.C'S PRODUCTION OF "GREASE" WENT DOWN A STORM!!

ROGC HALLOWEEN PARTY 2007

A SELL OUT EVENT

In true ROGC style this was definitely a night to remember.

On Friday 26th October the whole club descended upon Rochdale Rugby Union Football Club for the 2007 Halloween Party organised by Springboard.  My my what an organised job they did and oh boy what a night it was !!  Fiona Wright pulled together every single member of Springboard and as a team they worked and worked for weeks on end and put on the best event in a long long time from our Fund Raising dudes.  The whole club pulled together with gymnasts, parents, coaches and friends from every corner of the club in attendance.  The room was packed out and the atmosphere was buzzing which resulted in everyone enjoying what was to prove to be a fantastic evening of frivolity and entertainment....

People of all ages enjoyed and took part in The Fancy Dress, The Potato Roll, Guess the Cat's Name, Tombola, Best Carved Pumpkin, Pass the Pumpkin, Face Painting, Munching the Potato Pie Supper and lots lots more throughout the evening.  Non stop entertainment all night and the DJ was absolutely brilliant with the kids and adults alike.
We also celebrated Abigail's 18th and Cheryl's 40th !!
A big big well done to all our Springboard Volunteers.  The event was a fantastic success and every single person thoroughly enjoyed themselves and this will be talked about in the gym for weeks to come.  Here's to the next one !!!

BANK HOLIDAY FUN DAY
Tracey Wilkinson and The Birch Hotel Public House, Whitworth Road, Whitworth, once again hosted us on Bank Holiday Monday in August.  Everyone had a day off training and all who attended enjoyed themselves.

There were lots of little things going on around the pub, and something for everyone's taste.  The jar tombola went down a treat with everyone who won, and there were some peculiar things placed in jars for this.  Mr Kipling has nothing on us.  The Home Baking Stall was tested by everyone in the pub, whether they wanted to or not. All the raffle prizes went down a treat.  The kids enjoyed the bowling as teams had to consist of an adult and a child, and the day was wrapped up with a game of killer pool.

ROGC'S DAY OUT AT CAMELOT

..............AND A GREAT DAY WAS HAD BY ALL !!

This day out was organised by Springboard not to make money but to get people together and have a fun day out of the gym.

 Everyone who attended THOROUGHLY enjoyed

themselves and we were all absolutely exhausted at the end of the day.

And the weather managed to hold off – it didn’t rain once – in fact at times it was quite warm !!!

Hopefully there will be a few more of these kinds of events in the near future….

EXCITING NEW PROJECT FOR THE CLUB

Over the past few years, the club has bought almost every piece of equipment it is possible to fit in a gym of this size.  Any ageing equipment has been replaced with the highest quality apparatus available on the market. In comparison to other gymnastics clubs the one thing we lack is space and we have always compensated for this by providing top of the range equipment for our gymnasts. The one piece of equipment we have never bought is a fully sprung floor area.  Ironically this is the one piece that would be utilised most frequently in the gym and it is the most crucial piece of equipment which would benefit every single gymnast, including babies and toddlers in our playgym sessions, from their first day in training to their last.  The floor area would be soft and springy – just like the sprung track but all the way through the gym and the back room.  It would be wall to wall – with the whole floor at one level making it much safer and easier for babies, parents, gymnasts and coaches to get around.  For safety reasons we will also be filling in around the bars area and underneath the parents seating area to ensure there are no differences in floor levels - these areas will not be sprung.  The gym will then become more easily accessible for children or adults with disabilities who wish to join the club.  We would like to get this work done at the gym as soon as possible but we have a major fundraising task ahead of us if we are to be successful. The cost of the new floor has not yet been finalised but a rough estimate was given at approximately £20,000.   There seems to be no likelihood of the club getting a larger premises in the near future, but should this situation change, we would be able to dismantle the sprung floor and take it with us to the new premises like any other piece of equipment.   We have a head start – there is already a development fund on the go with over £7,000 in it all of which is earmarked for the project.  We will be applying for grants and trying to obtain corporate sponsorship wherever possible, but we will also need a huge fund-raising drive at the club.  Several activities are already being planned and SPRINGBOARD, the social and fundraising committee will be playing a major role in co-ordinating these activities.  Obviously if any of you parents can help us by identifying potential sponsors or with the events we are planning or giving new ideas for raising this money we will be most grateful.

We hope you will support our fundraising events and activities.  We cannot stress enough how much this investment will benefit your children and make their training safer, easier and more enjoyable for them. If you would like to help in any way please speak to Fiona Wright from Springboard or contact any of the head coaches at the gym.

JULY, 2006.
"CHARITY NIGHT" AT "THE RAJ RESTAURANT"
Sponsored by "GEOMETRIC FURNITURE"
An Excellent Kick Start to the Fund Raising Efforts.....

Rochdale Olympic Gymnastics Club, sponsored by GEOMETRIC FURNITURE held a Charity Night hosted by THE RAJ RESTAURANT to kick start the fundraising drive and raise money towards the installation of a fully sprung floor area throughout the two training rooms at the club.  Also appearing at the Raj for the evening was the superb TV hypnotist JONATHAN ROYLE who mesmerised all in the room.  Corporate tables were taken up by The Birches Hotel, Paddens Catering, Tracey & Chris Rourke and of course our sponsors Geometric Furniture.
This is a very ambitious project for the club.  All the children at the club are really excited about the new floor and are fully participating in our fundraising activities.  However, this one was for the adults and they equally took part.  We had a target of £2,000 to raise on the evening and £2,000 we raised..
We were very pleased to obtain a sponsor for the event, GEOMETRIC FURNITURE LTD, manufacturers and suppliers of contract furniture to the leisure, bar, restaurant and hotel industries.  Managing Director of Geometric Furniture, Damian O'Donnell has backed our project all the way and his sponsorship, together with the free services of both the Raj Restaurant and Hypnotist Jonathan Royle, meant that every penny went towards our target fund.
Three of the clubs aspiring young gymnasts performed a short display to the delights of the crowd. Connie Briggs, Jessica Gilchrist & Faye Padden, performed superbly on the night in a small space, totally astounded the crowds and were asked to perform the show a second time !
Invited guest councillor Elwyn Watkins rounded off the evening with the raffle, stand up bingo and took up the role of auctioneer for the auction.  Raffle prizes included:-

  • £60.00 of Argos Gift Vouchers & Chocolates donated by Stephen Charlesworth Consultancy & Book Keeping
  • A Financial Health Check Voucher to the value of £250.00
  • A Gardening Hamper
  • A Holiday Hamper
  • Back to School Hampers

The two winners of the stand up bingo were awarded Fitness First starter packs.

Auction items were:-

  • A Drinks Hamper - £80.00
  • A Meal for Two at the Birches Hotel, Whitworth donated by Tracey Wilkinson - £50.00
  • A £50.00 voucher from The Hair Cuttery, donated by Chris & Tracey Rourke - £35.00
  • A £165.00 voucher from Venture Photography - £110.00
  • A Pamper Hamper including 6 Yoga sessions and an Indian Massage - £60.00
  • A Decorated Cake - £40.00
  • A Buffet for 50 people donated by Paddens Catering. - £80.00

A signed Dwight Yorke shirt was also donated and this will be auctioned at a future event.

A very successful evening to kick off the fund raising efforts in an attempt to reach our target fund of £20,000 for the project.  The club already has the next event planned – a Family Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday 28th August, 2006, at the Birches Hotel, Market Street, Whitworth, which will also boost the fund.

AND THE FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT - £2,000 RAISED.

WELL DONE TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED THIS EVENT.  A HUGE SUCCESS AT THE VERY START OF OUR FUND RAISING DRIVE.

AUGUST, 2006.
"BANK HOLIDAY FUN DAY"

On Monday 28th August, 2006 the club descended on The Birches Hotel Public House, on Market Street, Whitworth, for our latest fund raising event to go towards the “pot” for our new floor which will hopefully be installed in January, 2007.

Graham and Cheryl started the day before!  At 8pm on Sunday 27th August we started our 24 hours on the pool table.  We got through the night and were joined by many a challenger along the way.  192 games played – Final score Cheryl 143 !!!!, Graham 27, Challengers 22.   And at 8pm on Monday 28th August to a great big cheer by god did we celebrate !!!  And our challengers were getting younger and younger as they day went on !

We wish to thank all those people who sponsored us but now we have the task of collecting it all in !!

We had all sorts of other things going on during the day on Bank Holiday Monday, with a Balloon Race, a Crown Green Bowling Competition, Home Made Cake Satlls, Tombolas, Raffles, Face Painting - You name it we did it..............

  • Steve was the master of the bowling green and thought he would teach everyone - Amy had other ideas!
  • The Jar Tombola went down a treat - it's amazing what you can fit in a jar!
  • The Home Bake Stall was a success with all sorts of treats at 2 for the price of 1.
  • Rheann and Hayley hauled the cake round in the " Guess the Weight" competition.
  • Mary & Elyse took the easier job of carrying the raffle tickets round !!
  • And Julia kept vigil on the bowling compeittion. Doesn't look very enthralled though..
And the face painting went down a treat.  Pity Grace couldn't make the weather look like her face !

All in all the club had a great day and when all sponsorship money collected in and added to the money we raised on the day a total of £3,000.00. and we are now well on the way to our £20k target.

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
